4 Ali Baba Sweets, Jal El Dib. Lebanon
Mar 22
Walking into this sweets shop is like walking into a Cathedral of precious sweets.

This is one of the many trays of filo and spun wheat little baklava treats. They are much more delicate than the Greek ones with subtle hints of cardamon, rose water, Jasmin and several other underlying flavors.

These are the ones that are made of filo many layers with honey and nuts. Very light and melt in your mouth

Here is what you see what you first walk into Ali Baba Sweets like a jewelry store

These treats are a combination of the wheat pastry and different chocolates

Here another assortment of pastries of a different kind. The technical involved to make what is in this store and the variety and quality is just outstanding.

Thier chocolates are easily as good as Jacques Torres in New york

Home to enjoy!

Looking at these photographs makes me miss being overseas and having the variety of authentic and beautifully prepared baked goods. Thank you for sharing. LEW
Thank you Benny for inspiration.
After viewing all the wonderful pics from your visits to Lebanon I was inspired to visit our local Lebanese market. I found mahlab or mahleb. A spice made from dried, ground, sour black cherry pits.
I have been adding the mahlab to my brioche dough. WOW what a fragrance when it is baking and the flavor is out of this world. I discovered also that my NEW brioche dough marries beautifully with cinnamon, so my cinnamon buns have to be made NOW with brioche dough, more time consuming and way more fattening but definitely worth it.
Thank you again
