Here is my little twist on making this donut hole type treats that are eaten during many Jewish holidays and in fact are just plain great anytime and my version make it very easy to make in no time as you don't need a piping bag for the jam and no deep fat frying.

6 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 3 Tbsp water
  • 1 cup all purpose flour, sifted
  • regular sugar for rolling donuts in
  • strawberry jam
  • pinch of kosher salt

Directions

Start by sifting the flour into a bowl , add the sugar, salt and the eggs, now dissolve the baking soda in water then add to the mix and whisk together until you have a nice batter it should be fairly thick.

Now I used my takoyaki pan for this which works perfect to make these little donut morsel. You can get them for about $20 and they are great for takoyaki of course and making all kinds of desserts like this one.

On a medium heat and lightly brushed with vegetable oil ladle in the batter until it come up to the top of the little well in the pan. It’s ok if it spills over as you are going to push all that batter inside the ball when you turn it.

Now add about 1/2 teaspoon of the jam in the middle (you can see in the photo) and let cook for a min or so. Using a wooden skewer clean the edges and check if its ready to turn by seeing if it a nice golden brown. If so turn it upside down using the skewer and push any bits of batter into the little ball.

Keep turning them every 30 seconds or so until you have a perfect little ball shape. Once they are done roll them in some sugar let cool and enjoy.

Easy huh :)   Now go make a bunch everyone will love them and no jam piping bag and no deep fat frying.
