Jun 01

IMG_9963 (798x1024)
A lot fo people are nervous about cooking tuna as it can be expensive (about $23.00 in a restaurant) and you can screw it up by marinating it to long or cooking it to long. Just don't take your eye off the ball (tuna) you will be fine and it will turn out restaurant quality at about 1/4 the cost per serving.

Servings

1 servings

Ingredients

  • 4 oz tuna per serving (Albacore, Yellowfin will work)
  • sesame seeds (black, white or combination)
  • olive oil
  • light soy sauce
  • store bought wasabi in a tube is ok (mix in a small bowl with a little water to thin it out)
  • baby greans for plating

Directions

Start by putting some light soy sauce in a bowl that we will use to dredge the Tuna. In another bowl add a dollop of store bought wasabi and add a little water to it to make a loose paste. In a last bowl have your sesame seeds in.

Take your Tuna and quickly role it in the soy sauce then using a brush paint on the wasabi this will give it great seasoning. Now role it in the sesame seeds making sure to cover all of the tuna.

Now and here is the part to really pay attention add some olive oil to a hot pan and just when it is about to smoke using a pair of tongs put the Tuna in and cook it about 40 seconds to a min each side depending on how think it is, the sesame seeds should have a nice toasted look to them. Turn to do all sides of the Tuna and take out to rest. Should be no more than 3-4 min total cooking time.

To serve slice nice thick pieces and accompany with some baby greens with a little Asian dressing like soy sauce with a little rice wine vinegar and a couple drops of sesame oil.

Enjoy!

Simple stuff and you will save at least 50% of the cost from a restaurant menu.
