The retirement flight had been announced. When Benny realized its Hudson route would take it directly past his apartment, he waited at the window with his phone ready.

NASA’s Space Shuttle Enterprise arrived in New York on April 27, 2012, mounted atop a modified Boeing 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft. Enterprise was the program’s atmospheric test orbiter; it was not built for spaceflight.
That morning’s route carried the pair over the Hudson and past Manhattan before landing. Enterprise later traveled by barge to its permanent home at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.
