The Photograph That Waited
A single photograph can be an entire chapter when everyone inside it carries a different piece of the story.
This one was made at The Bay in downtown Vancouver during the Bark at the Moon era. Jeff Zgalic worked for a record company involved with bringing Ozzy’s press appearance to the store. Jeff got Benny Doro and Randy Rampage into a small private meeting that lasted roughly three minutes.
The album display survives behind them. Benny’s hair, Randy’s jacket, Ozzy seated below, and Jeff at the right place the photograph firmly in its time. Nothing needs to be recreated. The evidence is already inside the frame.
Jeff brought Benny and Randy into a brief private meeting with Ozzy Osbourne at The Bay.
Benny had loved the new album and was able to tell Ozzy exactly what Jake E. Lee’s guitar playing meant to him.
Benny recorded the memory on July 22, 2026—the first anniversary of Ozzy’s death.

He Was Just Great
There was barely time for a conversation, but there was enough time for the person to come through.
Benny told Ozzy how much he loved the album and how Jake E. Lee’s guitar playing had landed—some Eddie Van Halen energy, some of Jake himself, and a sound that felt new. Ozzy listened, signed their things, and told them they had to come to the show.
“I just wanted to hug that guy,” Benny remembers.

Bark at the Moon
The record-store display became an arena show.
On March 23, 1984, Ozzy Osbourne played Vancouver’s Pacific Coliseum with Mötley Crüe and Waysted. Benny and Randy were there. Mötley Crüe were touring Shout at the Devil; Ozzy was touring the album whose artwork surrounded this photograph.
The photograph captures the quieter scene before the volume returned.
Benny recorded this memory on July 22, 2026—exactly one year after Ozzy Osbourne died.
